Unblocking mail ports
By default, BelgiumVM blocks all incoming and outgoing traffic on standard mail ports (25, 465, and 587) across all virtual machines (VPS).
Why are these ports blocked?
This is a standard industry security measure designed to protect our network and your server's IP reputation. Unrestricted access to mail ports is frequently exploited by malware or compromised scripts to send massive volumes of spam.
By blocking these ports by default, we prevent our IP ranges from being blacklisted by global spam filters (like Spamhaus). This ensures that when legitimate clients need to send emails, their messages actually reach the recipient's inbox instead of being flagged as spam.
How to request an unblock
Open a support ticket from the client area. To help us process your request as quickly as possible, your ticket must include the following information:
- Your Use Case: Briefly explain why you need to host a mail server or route mail directly from your VM instead of using a third-party SMTP relay (like SendGrid, Mailgun, or Amazon SES).
- Type of Mail Expected: Let us know what kind of emails you will be sending (e.g., personal emails, transactional application alerts, marketing newsletters, or corporate communications) and the expected volume.
- Security & Anti-Spam Measures: Confirm that you have taken the necessary precautions to secure your outgoing mail and prevent abuse. This includes configuring standard mail authentication records (SPF, DKIM, and DMARC) and securing any web forms. Furthermore, baseline server hygiene is required before ports are unblocked. Your OS, kernel, and packages must be fully patched, and remote access (SSH) must be secured beyond default password authentication.
Once our team reviews your ticket and confirms the details, we will immediately remove the block on your instance.
